Intelux (development name)
Intelux is a distribution of Linux based off of OpenSUSE through SUSE Studio. It is currently in v0.1.1, which means its far from the first major release.
The boot graphics and such need work, but then again it is an early release. Once i try this out on VirtualBox, I’ll release v0.1.1.
Customize the Start Menu
You know that start menu down there in the bottom left corner of your screen on Windows XP? It just says “start”… How boring is that!? Really boring. Now what if I told you that you can change that to say virtually anything? How about “Freaking cool! How!?” Well. This is a little tutorial on how to do just that.

First we will need one tool. ResHacker, a link is located here. The program just edits certain information in the executable file. I promise that this will try to take all the scary registry editing, and the lands of the “WINDOWS” directory on your computer.
To make this go smoothly, and not mess your computer up any, you MUST follow all of these directions as I say. EXACTLY FOOLS!
1. Download ResHacker. A link again. Here.
2. Copy explorer.exe from “WINDOWS” to “My Documents”
2a. Go to “Start -> Run” and type in “cmd” Press enter.
2b. Command Prompt will start up. Now look at the directory (where it says “C:\Documents and Settings\blahblahblah\”) where I put the “blahblahblah” is your username. Remember that for later. Type “cd C:\WINDOWS”, the directory should now be “C:\WINDOWS>” instead of what it said before hand.
2c. Now. This command will copy “explorer.exe” to your documents folder. Type in: “copy “explorer.exe” “C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents”. Replace where it says “username” with what you jotted down before. Close out of Command Prompt.
3. This is the fun part. This is where you get to put whatever you want in the start menu.
3a. You downloaded ResHacker before. Now unzip that. And double click ResHacker. It looks like a window with a hammer on it. Open up the file you just copied.
3b. Expand “String Table”, then “37″. Click on “1033″. You will see a “STRINGTABLE”. The first entry says: “578, “start”" This is what we are changing. Now, change it to what ever you want. I changed it to “brian”, as my name is Brian. Make sure you only change what is within the quotes (meaning just “start”). Now choose “Save As…” save it as something like “my_explorer”.
4. This step we will copy the file you just made into the “WINDOWS” directory.
4a. Go back to Command Prompt. See step 2a on how to do this.
4b. Now type in: “cd “My Documents”"
4c. Type “copy “whatyounamedthefile.exe” “C:\WINDOWS”" Almost done… Close command prompt.
5. This is the last step. Download myexplorer.reg and restoreexplorer.reg
5a. The first file will patch the registry to boot up the file you made. But you have to edit it. Just a little bit.
5b. Right click on myexplorer.reg and select edit. Edit: “Shell”=”yourexplorernamehere.exe”. Where it says “yourexplorernamehere”, put in the name of the file you made. Save it.
5c. Double click on it. It will ask if you want to add the information to the registry. Select “Yes”, then “Okay”.
5d. If you ever want to revert your start menu back to normal, just execute the restorexplorer.reg. It will make it normal again.
6. You are done, except there is one more thing. Just log out. And back in again. Then your start menu should show what you put in!
7. If you are feeling iffy about this, you can try our new program, Custom Explore, that does just about everything for you. I have tried this on two computers, and one it failed to execute the Registry file. If this happens, CTRL-ALT-DEL, New Task, explorer.exe, okay. Then find the program and click “Restore
“. Follow all instructions. Download here: Custom Explore. Note that you will need to download and extract all the files from ResHacker into the main directory of the program.
This tutorial is meant for use on a personal computer. If other people share it with you, they might not like it, since it will appear on all accounts. DO NOT use this on a public computer, such as schools, libraries, etc. I doubt you will be able to access such commands there anyhow.
I am NOT responsible for any damage done to your computer when doing this tutorial. If there is damage, you did this incorrectly. Like I said, FOLLOW EXACTLY, and nothing bad will happen.
